Presenting with Confidence

Workshop overview

Presentations are a crucial part of the PhD and, oftentimes, post-PhD careers as well. A majority of people experience overwhelming feelings of anxiety and stress when giving presentations. Confronting rather than concealing the fear of public speaking might help in overcoming these feelings. It is important to understand the underlying factors behind these feelings so that the presentation 'dread' can be overcome. In this session, we are hoping to lead the participants through a discussion of the underlying factors behind these feelings and collectively find a solution on how to cope with these feelings and learn to present confidently. Participants will be invited to take part in the discussion and share their views and experiences.

This session is part of a recently introduced initiative, the DTA Community of Practice, which aims to bring together DTA alumni, supervisors, Training Group members, and other professionals from the DTA network to contribute to the training programme and share their knowledge and expertise with DTA PGRs.
